Hey guys, it’s Jimmy. Today, I’m bringing you the entirety of bAd bAd’s debut self-titled LP, courtesy of Sacremento’s SS Records. Yes, the whole LP; all nine tracks, no funny business. Fuckin’ psyche. This is actually just a three-track sampler for the group’s upcoming LP, which I’ve been specifically instructed to upload instead of the entire release. Why? Beats me. While I’m not too sure about the semantics behind this decision, I’m aware of the fact that someone behind the physical release of this LP has asked that this isn’t uploaded in its fullest. This sampler is more of a compromise for the group’s desire to get their material thrown up on my page. While I’m certainly not one to upload incomplete releases to my channel, I’m also not one to go against the wishes of the actual people behind the release itself. So, it’s a sampler they want, and a sampler they will get. I figured I oughta clear that up from the get-go, as to avoid any confusion regarding why a three-track album is being pushed as an LP. The truth of the matter is that there’s six more tracks to this stupendous LP, which are going to be restricted to the physical LP for the time being. Will I ever be allowed to share the LP in its entirety? Again, I haven’t got a clue. All I know is that, having thoroughly binged on the album’s nine songs over the course of two months, this LP is well worth a purchase regardless of its online availability. This group surely won’t disappoint you, because this band is a far-cry from anything close to disappointing. bAd bAd (yes, that spelling is deliberate) is a surreal musical experience emanating from select practice spaces across Oakland, and interestingly enough, the Caribbean as well (where the group’s singer and songwriter is currently “quasi-exiled”, working to save up money in order to return back to the states for tour). Here’s a short bio provided by the group themselves: “The humans that currently make up bAd bAd are Christian Zamora (vocals/guitar, San Jose, CA), his younger brother Michael Zamora (guitar), Eli Maness (bass, Colorado), and second oldest, Patrick Webb (drums, 33, Georgia). We named the band bAd bAd after the consistently hilarious bad behavior of a few surrounding characters in our lives. The capital A's are purely meant for aesthetic and light conversation. bAd bAd began playing noisy, instrumental surf punk in dilapidated San Francisco Victorians in the Inner and Outer Sunset in February of 2012. The goal was to be as spastic and high energy as possible while inviting everyone's inner demons to the stage. We're definitely outsiders in most Bay Area "scenes," and enjoy wrestling with the paradox of understanding the motives behind performing songs which are about the paradoxes of motives. After a few years of developing our sound, and a strange close call of almost being sued for our band name by Aerosmith's lead singer's youngest daughter's band with his son-in-law in the spring of 2014, we began moving from the surf aesthetic towards a more psychedelic realm. All of us played in weird bands growing up, of varying styles, metal, punk, psych-rock, electronic, etc., and continue to play in weird bands growing up.” While the group was originally founded a noise-oriented instrumental project, with a strong focus on being as “spastic and high energy” as possible, bAd bAd has since blossomed from its experimental roots into a project that totes a similarly-high energy sound, while adopting the melodious and dance-friendly elements of both pop-punk and psychedelic rock alike. Since amalgamating into a stimulating brand of psyche-infused pop-punk, this LP acutely conveys the mind-bending capabilities that this group has in store for all soon-to-be-awed listeners, to a degree that hasn’t quite been achieved with the group’s earlier material – assuming their past two releases are any indication of their tonal growth (http://badbadforyou.bandcamp.com/album/casette-tape, http://badbadforyou.bandcamp.com/album/7).
