Tapered log lift. In this video series I am building a taper log lift for the new sawmill I am building. I will be using a common trailer jack to make a lift for when the log is on the band saw mill, but has a taper and one end needs to b lifted to compensate for that taper. Most logs taper as they grow, soft woods more that hard and the longer the log the more pronounced the taper. This is especially important when "sawing for grade" in hardwood where the best lumber is just under the bark. I will use the manual jack to raise the log off the bunks and hold it there while the log is being sawed.
