“Basic Scriptures” is intended to be a study guide for a person interested in truth with minimal accumulative knowledge of Bible doctrine. Biblical answers are provided (always in the form of scriptures) for common questions. These scriptures should be studied first, as they are critical for building a spiritual foundation. _____________________________________________ Q: If someone wants to learn the Bible, can they just start reading and immediately understand or garner whatever meaning they want? Also, how does one choose which Bible to learn from? How does one learn? A: Study to learn. The Bible must be taught, therefore, one must use the same Bible version as their teacher. Otherwise, confusion reigns, as the written words are inherently different. _____________________________________________ 2nd Timothy 2:15 “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” - Romans 10:13 “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” Romans 10:14 “How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?” Romans 10:15 “And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!” _____________________________________________ Q: What if one’s belief of a topic or individual scripture in the Bible seems and sounds accurate? Others verified that it sounded accurate to them also. A: Opinions cannot be proven - truth is always proven. Shared opinions generate traditions. Therefore, traditions cannot be proven and are doctrinally rejected. - Proverbs 14:12 “There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.” _____________________________________________ Q: Can scriptures in the Bible mean something different depending on who you are? If two people disagree on what a scripture means, can both be correct? If one hears two different meanings for the same verse, which one is to be believed? Also, since humans wrote the Bible, what difference does it make which Bible version is used? Besides, new Bible scripts may be found in the future. A: The Bible refers to the first questions as “Private Interpretation”. Accomplished by: inserting an opinion; not studying supporting scriptures; and choosing any Bible and interpreting at will. One meaning is provable. The other topic is referred to as “Throughly Furnished”. A truthful Bible teacher will prove that all scripture must be proven in conjunction with all proven scriptures. _____________________________________________ 2nd Peter 1:20 “Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.” 2nd Peter 1:21 “For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.” - 2nd Timothy 3:16 “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:” 2nd Timothy 3:17 “That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.” _____________________________________________ Q: If someone loves God, and God is love, they would go to Heaven after death. The reason: -God is a loving God and would not cast someone who loves Him into the lake of fire.- A: The Bible teacher will show scriptures that reveal this statement has errors and opinions. The first is what the Bible’s definition of “loving God” is. Subsequently, the teacher will ask if the student is assured that their prayers are heard after studying these two verses. - John 14:15 “If ye love me, keep my commandments.” - John 9:31 “Now we know that God heareth not sinners: but if any man be a worshipper of God, and doeth his will, him he heareth.” _____________________________________________ Q: Can one just worship God however he wants? The reason: He knows what one is thinking and will see the good intent and know my spirit is sensually and seriously worshipping at my time chosen. A: The Bible specifies how to faithfully worship “Our Father”. - John 4:23 “But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shallworship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him.” John 4:24 “God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.” - Hebrews 11:6 “But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.” _____________________________________________ END - Basic Scriptures cybercoc.org #cybercoc #churchofchrist #cyberchurchofchrist web: cyberchurchofchrist.org email: [email protected]
