A message from JR Riddle: This project has been crazy. This was our short film entry for film fest so it had specific guidelines that had to be followed. The guidelines said it needed a deck of cards featured and a toilet flush sound, so we just put them together and got bathroom gambling. I got straight to writing and planning, and soon enough we had everything figured out. We prepared to film after school but there was an event going on so we had to do it the day after. We arrived on what we though would be the real filming day with a completely different cast: Ayden as the spy, Lucas as a Goon, and Dillon not even being there. As we got ready to film, Ayden got a call and had to leave. I was devastated, we couldn't do our spy film without the spy, and we didn't have anyone there to fill. We needed another person, so I called Dillon and asked him if he could be in our film and he said yes. So we got ready to film with Lucas as the Spy and Dillon playing a Goon. We got a decent way through, right before the poker scene, when the janitors came in and we had to leave. This was before spring break and when we tried to reschedule at least one person had something going on, so we had to wait until after break. We eventually settled on a Thursday during school, get the entire thing done, but the one day we choose to film during school, there was a bomb threat and they canceled school. At this point, it seemed like maybe it wasn't meant to be, maybe Bathroom Bandits was doomed to be a great idea that we never went through with. We decided to try one more time, we were going to film everything(except the bouncer scene) the next week during school on Tuesday. We pulled through and finished filming, on to editing. During editing, there was only one big problem: the color grading. The main reason editing took so long was the color grading, but I pulled through and we got it turned in to the film fest. The Important Part: So, why did I just write out a whole story of how this film came to be? Well, it was to show that even after so much canceled filming and bad white balance, we persevered through, and in the end, we took home 1st place in short film at the West Valley Film Festival. I want to thank everyone involved with filming this for persevering with me. I want to thank you guys for making this film amazing, because when I watch this I feel nothing but pride. I wrote this, I directed it, I acted in it, I edited it, but it is nothing, NOTHING, without the amazing group of people that were there along with me for the ride. Thank you to Ayden, for sticking around and doing audio with no other reason to be there except to support us. Thank you to Lucas for stepping up to a role ten times the size of the one you were originally doing(and doing great). Thank you to Dillon for coming in with literately no notice and immediately adapting to the flow of things. Thank you to Bryce for being yourself and making the filming fun. Thank you to Bronson for your astounding camerawork and being here since the actual beginning of our film career, I could not have gotten this far without you. And finally, thank you, dear viewer, for taking the time to watch our short film, and for reading my entire message(if you did, I don't blame you if you didn't). Sorry for the ted talk, and I hope you enjoyed Bathroom Bandits. -Director JR Riddle
