Matt from Hawley Home Inspections explains a common issue with bathroom exhaust fan venting. He clarifies why directing the fan into the attic is problematic, leading to condensation and humidity problems. All too often, bathroom ventilation fans are vented directly into the attic. This often results in mold growth in the attic, which may damage attic materials, reduce insulation values, and even cause allergic reactions in those with impaired respiratory systems. Some years ago, it was approved to vent the attic into the soffit area. This has also been replaced by current requirements to vent bath fans directly to the outside because moisture was drawn back into the attic when vented through the soffit.
