Behind the Patch - Aeariel on OP-XY's Generative Capabilities
Back with another OP-XY exploration! In this video, I'm breaking down a surprisingly simple yet effective generative patch that came together really quickly thanks to the XY's lush reverb. I'll walk you through: How I'm creating drones using the hold function (still trying to figure out how to get them running continuously from startup - if you know how, drop it in the comments!) Using the new Maestro player for strummed notes with random variations Setting up piano chords with subtle LFO movement Creating generative variations using step components for random triggers, note changes, and portamento My approach to the visual elements: a custom rain script on Norns and the Burnslap FAV reacting to specific audio channels The patch is intentionally minimal: Two drones at different octaves with smooth parameter transitions Simple chord progressions using the piano engine Random triggered notes with varying portamento Some space-machine-like pings for texture Everything drenched in reverb I'm running three simple scenes that alternate between full texture and more sparse arrangements, perfect for a late-night ambient session. If you're into generative ambient pieces that work for extended plays, definitely give this one a try. Making me want to dive even deeper into the OP-XY's generative capabilities.
