The plaintiff says he was forced to move out of the defendant’s house, where he lived as a tenant, after a fire. He says he planned to return once repairs were finished, but eight months later the work was still incomplete. When he notified the defendant that he was moving out permanently, he was denied his security deposit. He is suing for the return of the deposit. The defendant says that after the fire all tenants moved out and removed their belongings except the plaintiff. He claims the plaintiff stored his property in the apartment for eight months without paying rent, so he is keeping the deposit as storage fees.
