BELTON, Texas (KWTX) - Belton teenager Riata Schoepf was rescue by first responders on Friday after being swept away by the deadly Guadalupe River floods.
Riata went on vacation to Hunt, Texas with another family for the Fourth of July. Their hotel bordered the Guadalupe River. Her dad, Ronnie Schoepf, recalled his daughters experience being evacuated.
“She says around 2:30 or so she’s hearing loud thunder and lightning and then the next thing she knew somebody’s banging on her door telling everybody they need to get out,” Ronnie said.
Riata and her group took to their vehicles to escape the flooding, but traffic was at a standstill. Water then began to rise around their car.
