Ben Reilly Tribute
Created from Peter Parker's DNA by the Jackal, this clone was made to fight him as part of Jackal's torment of Spider-Man, whom he blamed for Gwen Stacy's death. In the fight, only one could survive in order to save Ned Leeds from a bomb. The Jackal activated the bomb, seemingly dying and killing the clone. Spider-Man retrieved the "corpse" and buried him at a industrial chimney. However, the clone was not dead and literally rose from the ashes. Believing he was the real deal, he went home only to find Peter already there. The world as he understood it fell apart, and he left New York. In time, he adopted the name of Ben Reilly, a combination of Uncle Ben's name and Aunt May's maiden name. After returning to New York Ben would don a makeshift costume, and is dubbed the 'Scarlet Spider' by the press. Ben later becomes the replacement Spider-Man for a time at Peter's request. In a fight with with Norman Osborn, the Green Goblin,, Reilly intercepts a Goblin Glider before it can impale Parker, but the glider damages Reilly's spine. Reilly falls several stories and crashes onto a taxi underneath. As he lies dying, Reilly tells Parker that Parker is now Spider-Man and will have to resume the role for Reilly. Reilly dies and his body decomposed rapidly. At some point, Ben was brought back to life by New U Technologies. He then takes up the mantel of the Jackel and later reclaims the mantel of the Scarlet Spider.
