A different way to prep pecans for shelling and for an extra treat try a few while still warm. This works by expanding and softening the husks and it also makes the edible "seed" more flexible when removing from the husk so you are more likely to remove complete seeds or halves. It should be done when the pecans are cool enough to handle. This method also reduces the dust and fragments from cracking. Let the seeds dry before storing.
