BIGmack

What is it? The BIGmack is a single-message speech-generating device for Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC). It allows the user to communicate by playing a single recorded message of up to two minutes long, by simply activating the coloured button on top. The message could be a word, phrase, repeated line from a story or song for a user to play back at the right time. How does it work? The BIGmack comes with four different coloured buttons, which can be interchanged as the user wishes. There is the option to slide a picture symbol underneath the clear plastic cover to help reinforce the message that will play when the device is activated. How could it be used to support SEND? This device could be used to support an early understanding of cause and effect (i.e. when the switch is pressed, something happens) or as a simple introduction to sound recording technology. It could be attached to a switch adapted toy or appliance so that the device is activated when the BIGmack message plays. Where can I get one?
