Black men are usually expected to be one thing: masculine, straight, and emotionally closed off. So when a Black man is bisexual, people often act like it doesn’t make sense or he has to choose between being straight or gay. A lot of bisexual Black men stay closeted because they already know how people will judge them. Some people assume they’re secretly gay. Some see them as less masculine. Some women may avoid dating bisexual men simply because of stereotypes and misinformation. That kind of judgment can make people hide parts of themselves just to avoid being rejected or treated differently. And over time, hearing those opinions constantly, can turn into internalized biphobia and homophobia. Some men start feeling like they have to suppress who they are in order to fit in or be accepted. The issue isn’t that bisexual Black men exist. The issue is that society often refuses to let Black men exist outside of strict ideas about masculinity and sexuality. Nobody should feel forced to hide who they are just to make other people comfortable. But let’s unpack this & talk more about it.
