This song was written by Billy Rufus from Andrews, SC. Mr. Rufus was a Presbyterian minister, but known by everyone as “the town’s preacher”. I grew up with his son and have fond memories of him.
He wrote quite a few songs, and even went to Nashville and recorded some. Here’s a link to his recording of this song, “Black River”.
