It’s the start of an exciting new week at the Boat Building Academy, with a fresh cohort beginning our 40-week Boat Building Course. The workshop benches are buzzing as students get to grips with essential hand skills and foundational techniques that set the stage for the months ahead. In the courtyard classroom, our Modern Sailmaking Techniques course has been in full swing, expertly led by Mark Matthews who is returning to teach Traditional Sailmaking in March. Our 12-week Furniture Making students are putting the finishing touches on their tables and developing mock-ups of their final major pieces — it’s fantastic to see their designs taking shape. Downstairs in the main workshop, boat building students are carefully setting up molds and beginning work on their boats.
