An L4x4x½ (A36) angle is bolted to a 5/8” thick gusset plate (A36) using one column of 3, ¾” diameter A490-X bolts in a pretensioned bearing connection. We will determine the design strength of the member and connection considering gross-section yielding and net-section rupture of the angle, block shear of the angle, bolt shear, bearing, and tear out, block shear of the gusset, and gross-section yielding and net-section rupture of the gusset. Additionally, as requested in the instructions, we’ll also calculate the slip resistance of the connection.
