Boss Analysis # 76
This episode of Boss Analysis is a story about REVENGE. Whenever I think about the classic Sonic games, my mind always focuses on the Genesis mainline games: Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic The Hedgehog 2, Sonic 3 & Knuckles, etc. But I often forget these aren't the only games from this era. The Master System and Game Gear versions of Sonic the Hedgehog 1 & 2 are vastly different games from their 16-bit counterparts. They were actually the first Sonic games I ever played on the Game Gear. But this hasn't made me develop any sort of first game bias towards these two, far from it, especially not 8-bit Sonic 2. The first boss in 8-bit Sonic 2 (at least in the Game Gear version) is infamous for being so difficult, many couldn't even beat it (including yours truly) and get any further in the game! This, along with Tails getting kidnapped as part of the plot, made me look upon the game as far darker than it probably intended: a cruel and unpleasant memory, one I subconsiciously tried to push away and forget about, especially once I played the Genesis games. But that all ends today. In this episode of Boss Analysis, I'm going to work out how the Sonic 2 8-bit bosses tick and then hand them their asses back to them. I will cover the bosses in both versions of the game, to see which one has the tougher collection of bosses.
