DONATE: http://www.andrewwasson.com/donations.php http://www.andrewwasson.com/ Andrew Wasson of Creative Guitar Studio answers questions from off of his Guitar Blog website... Q). My practice of solos was all scales in position until I started watching some of your videos. Now, I've been trying to play runs like you. Basically, from position to position. My problem is that I can't seem to get around from one position to another well enough, and my solos still sit mostly in one position. How can I start thinking on the neck to take solos somewhere other than one position? Michael -- Baltimore, MD. U.S.A. A). Lead techniques (as you're obviously noticing) are much more than just learning about; tapping, sweep picking, legato, trills and all that stuff. The technique of knowing how the scale patterns are organized and manipulated during improvisation, will give you just as much (or more) control over the sound in the end. In this video, I want to divide the idea into 3 categories. They are; - scale tone over-lap - scale-tone string characteristics - scale-tone note grouping. To get started, we'll examine a diagram, of a group of three, "in position major scale patterns." And, after a quick look at the diagram I have for you, we'll hit the guitar neck to pull it all together.
