BUFFERING - 2024

a video work mapping vibrant matter - filmed and edited by @theaelder8160 in Iceland, September 2024 this work is an exploration of natural landscapes that illustrates how we retell our memories to ourselves, in order to create and process our personal histories. by examining how we both relate to, and are ourselves, vibrant matter within natural, untouched landscapes and by using lo-fi filming techniques, i am trying to emulate the fluid but glitchy, monumental but minute, and terrifyingly hard to pinpoint nature of memory and meaning-making. as we exist as vibrant matter, cohabitating amongst other vibrant matter, the matter we chose to engage with becomes that which sustains and transforms us. it is therefore up to us to inspect ourselves and our environment as a means to transform frequencies of harm into that of growth; healing as a process of introspection turned toward the vibrant matter that we are and exist alongside. i use distorted spoken word poetry, layered amongst a song that i had on repeat for months on end to mimic the way our brains become less certain about truth the more we try to zero-in on specific facts of particularly painful memories - by trying harder to hear what soundtracks this work, the less sure you are about what it is you're hearing.
