Building a cheap solid low workbench with hand tools
This is a solid low workbench, built for cheap with two glued top boards and readily available construction graded lumber from the big-box store. I reused two leftover benches from a painter contractor and a clamped bench bull from glued pieces. The build was inspired by Octavian Dan and it will be used along with two saw horses to work on a more permanent full-size workbench with a vice. It is a great solution for small spaces and it can optionally be equipped with additional hardware (a screw vice, clamps and bench dogs - depending on your preference and use). Did I mention the cost is just shy of $50? The joinery is just mortise and tenon based with a few variations (haunched, mitered and wedged), everything done with hand tools. The finish of choice is raw linseed oil and beeswax.
