Burn that Bridge

Burn that Bridge This is the first song that started as an Instagram post. I tried to find it again, but no dice. It was the one that talked about mixed metaphors…”it’s not rocket surgery”, “more fun than a can of worms”…that kinda thing. My favorite was “we’ll burn that bridge when we get to it”…man, that’s good. It’s got some bounce to it, funny turn of phrase, can be interpreted in a couple ways…that’s a great seed to start a song with. When I thought about it, I pictured it as people who know they should be burning bridges, but they never get around to it. I threw in a couple of other metaphor references, with both the verses ending up as just thoughts on storytelling. Being a song about bridges, felt like it needed a bridge. The end of the chorus talks about the bridge so I let it roll right into “You got a light? Here comes the bridge…” and ending it with “…we might forget/to burn the next bridge till we’re over it”. Like you just burned the bridge and look over and you’re both on the same side still…seemed to fit the context of “eh, when we get to it…” This was the third of the three songs I was stuck on…MatterFeels, Going through the Motions, and this one…not exactly a white whale, but this one’s been in motion since February. Time to give this page of my notebook a rest…
