It's the safest way to preserve data before recovery. *🖥️ Why Use Disk Drill 6 for This Task?* * Completely redesigned backup algorithm. * Simple interface with advanced functionality. * Visual real-time feedback during the backup. * Auto-skips bad blocks and retries to read damaged sectors. * Works on both Windows and macOS (supports Recovery Mode on Mac). ✨ More new features in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=scXxMU5rJt0 *🔧 How to Create a Byte-to-Byte Backup in Disk Drill (Step-by-Step)* 1. Launch Disk Drill and select the “Byte-to-byte Backup” option in the sidebar. 2. From the list of drives shown in the center, choose the one you want to back up (e.g., a corrupted SD card or a failing HDD). 3. On the right, click the “Create Backup” button. 4. Configure the Backup File. * Name your backup (e.g., DJI_SD_backup.dmg or disk_image.dmg). * Choose the image type (leave it as default unless needed). * Set the destination path. Always save to a different disk than the source. 5. Start the backup process. You'll see a visual progress map: 🟩 Green = good blocks 🟥 Red = problematic sectors (Disk Drill retries reading them later). 6. Depending on drive health and size, this may take time. Disk Drill automatically skips unreadable areas for faster imaging, then revisits bad sectors for recovery attempts. 7. Once the backup completes, disconnect the original storage. Work only with the image from now on. This prevents further damage. *📂 How to Use the Backup for Recovery in Disk Drill* 1. Go to “Storage Devices” in the sidebar. 2. Click “Attach disk image” in the bottom-left corner. 3. Select your newly created backup file. It will now appear in your device list. 4. Choose it and click “Search for lost data” to begin recovery. 5. Preview and recover your files as needed. 🛠️ Advanced Settings for Professional Use (Windows/macOS) You can fine-tune how Disk Drill handles bad blocks during backup: BackupSkipBlocks - How many blocks to skip after hitting a bad block BackupBlockSize - Size of each block in bytes (must match sector size) BackupRetryCount - Number of retry attempts for reading bad sectors 📌 On Windows (Registry Editor) 1. Close Disk Drill. 2. Press Win + R, type regedit, and hit Enter. 3. Go to: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\508Software\Disk Drill\drill 4. Right-click → New → DWORD (32-bit) Value 5. Name it exactly (e.g., backupSkipBlocks) 6. Double-click → Set your desired value (e.g., 10) 📌 On Mac (Terminal) 1. Close Disk Drill completely. 2. Open Terminal and type: defaults write com.cleverfiles.DiskDrill backupSkipBlocks -int 10 (Substitute setting name and value as needed) To delete a setting: defaults delete com.cleverfiles.DiskDrill backupSkipBlocks 🔴 RECOMMENDED VIDEOS: How to Get Data Off Damaged, Crashed or Old Hard Drive https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QtFN334vcmk Fix Corrupted Hard Drive on Windows https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JEpcJjoelLk Recover Data from a RAW Hard Drive https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_e4D_2bu8LE
