Cable Tool Drilling; Bailing
I'm pulling the tools out and bailing after a 7' run. Ordinarily you run the bailer only three or four times, but I noticed the water level did not drop as fast, indicating I had encountered some water. You can see a tape mark just below my hand on the sandline when the bailer is at the bottom of the hole-that mark is 150' at the ground, so I was down about 146' at this point. A piece of tape is put on the line just above the reel when the bailer is at ground level, then that tape is run over the top and back down to the ground, and another tape mark is put on at the reel. The rig is 35' up the front of the mast, and 40' down the back, and we can judge how deep we are from this mark. While I'm pulling the bailer, I feel and inspect the bit for wear. The sides of the bit are built up with borium rod every 20 to40 feet depending on how abrasive the formation is. At this point the well was making about 4 gallons per minute. It went on to produce 15+ GPM and finished up at 188'. That's an 8 gallon 4" O.D. bailer. The top of the well was 7' below my feet, so I had to "steer" it in the hole each time.
