I took a video from the other side to show you what else is going on. First the fire brick are removed from around the bit. Then the fuel and air are shut off. The bit is quickly moved to the dressing machine. Notice the yellow color-the smaller the bit, the quicker it cools. The bit is spread, then shaped. Finally, it's tempered in the slack tub. The next bit is put in the fire while the last one is being cooled. The forge is hot enough to ignite the diesel fuel once it is turned on again. This is a 5" bit with a 2x3x7 A.P.I. pin. We have pin caps to fit most A.P.I. sizes.
