At the Oklahoma Department of Corrections Academy, firearms training is a critical part of preparing correctional peace officers for real-world situations.
Cadets train from multiple distances, refining accuracy and learning proper weapon handling under the guidance of certified firearms instructors. Whether assigned to perimeter security, transport, or a fugitive apprehension team, officers must be prepared to act professionally and safely.
Most importantly, cadets are trained in the lawful and ethical use of force. Deadly force is used only when there is an imminent threat to life — whether protecting themselves, fellow officers, inmates, or the public. The focus is always on using the least amount of force necessary.
