Gold was discovered in the Cuyamacas in 1870 and the mountains were subject to a gold rush. NEVER enter old mines! There are dangers that are found in and around mines, some of which are: old explosives, hazardous chemicals, bats, snakes, spiders, bobcats, mountain lions and other predators.
