One of the largest theropod dinosaurs ever known, _Carcharodontosaurus_ is recognizable for its teeth, which strongly resemble the teeth of a great white shark. A close relative of both _Acrocanthosaurus_ of North America and _Giganotosaurus_ of South America, _Carcharodontosaurus_ is distinguished by its three-fingered hands, elongated snout, and an assortment of spikes located along its back and head. In comparison to _Giganotosaurus, Carcharodontosaurus_ (while similar in build) was a little smaller and had a narrower profile with a snout that tapers to a point. Its huge jaws are equipped with long, serrated, razor-sharp teeth that strongly resemble the teeth of a great white shark, hence its name. _Carcharodontosaurus_ was among the apex predators of its time. Its only rival at the time – save for other _Carcharodontosaurus_ – was the sail-back crocodile-like theropod dinosaur _Spinosaurus._ Like some carnivores, _Carcharodontosaurus_ hunted in pairs, which enabled it to hunt large herbivores. Armed with cunning and blade-like serrated teeth, these carnivores struck at will with deadly force.
