Carla Accardi, painter linked to the Forma I movement, is best known for her abstract paintings of calligraphic signs. Born in Sicily, Accardi is one of the co-founders of Forma I, a group of artists who embrace Futurism and Marxism as a response to the oppression of the Fascist regime in Italy.
At the beginning of the 1950s, Accardi created paintings that represented circles and signs that posed a more restrained counterpart to Jackson Pollock's drip paintings.
