Casting into a stiff wind can be very frustrating. An intuitive response is to cast hard and fast and allow the line to bang tight against your reel at the end of the cast. The trouble with that approach is that the line will stop abruptly, hang in the air, and the wind will blow it back at you unless your cast is just barely above the surface. A better approach is to aim short of your target and shoot line to just reach it. That way the forward flight of the line will bore through the wind and the shooting of the line will allow you to aim barely above the water so that it will settle quickly before being blown back.
