This video documents an aluminum sand casting job I was asked to complete for one of my viewers. The casting pattern / plate has a few concerns I would like to address with a new pattern to improve the castability. The new pattern will then be used to make an aluminum sand casting. The casting will then be analyzed for improvements at the end of the video.
Sand used in the video is TETON petrobond 190mesh ultrafine
The aluminum is from recycled aluminum parts that were previously cast( computer hard drives and a car manifold)
The new mold pattern was 3d printed using PLA filament. The pattern was then smoothed with spotting putty and sanded. The final coating was epoxy spray paint.
