Caterpillar to Lower Guide Transition

Join Mick Pearson as he describes an up-to-down transition for guides who are training on their rock guide course. Typically, on these courses, guides climb in linked end roping configuration, also known as Caterpillar, with a party of three and two ropes. Here, Mick demonstrates on a big ledge to do 2 lowers. It is important to note that Mick has a plan to do 2 lowers before he brings both clients up. 1.) Guide brings client 1 up and attaches client with a Muenter mule overhand 2.) Guide tethers in. 3. Guide takes both ends of the rope (top of rope 1 and bottom of rope 2) and feeds them through the chain anchors for a rappel descent. 3.) Guide ties a BHK (big honking knot) below the joining knot on rappel as a stopper about 3ft. down. 4.) Guide belays the 2nd client up and lowers them to the ground. 5.) Guide lowers 1st client to the ground with the Muenter Mule with a backup. 6.) The guide attaches their rappel device to both strands, adds a third hand, and weights the system. 7.)
