CB&Q 5629
5629 is a 4-8-4 northern built in 1940 by the Baldwin Locomotive Works for the Chicago Burlington & Quincy or more commonly known as the Burlington Route. When 5629 was built she was originally a coal burner but was later converted to burn oil in June of 1940. 5629 was built for heavy freights & fast passenger service. Between the mid to late 1950s, 5629 & her sisters were retired. 36 of these northerns were built for the CB&Q with 5629 being in the very last batch of them being built. A boiler pressure of 250 lbf/in (1.72 MPa), 74 in (1880 mm) drivers, combined for a tractive effort of 67,541 lbf (300.44 kN) & with a booster added it totaled to 80,741 lbf (359.15 kN), 5629 also had a top speed of Over 75 mph (121 km/h). 4 of these 4-8-4's are preserved with 5629 on static display at the Colorado Railroad Museum in Golden, Colorado, 5614, 5631 & 5633 are also preserved today while the other remaining 4-8-4's were scrapped.
