IEEE 1474.1 has defined three main CBTC building blocks:
ATP - Automatic Train Protection
ATO - Automatic Train Operation
ATS - Automatic Train Supervision
Using these building blocks, three different CBTC configurations are possible:
1. ATP only
2. ATP with some ATO and ATS
3. Full ATP, ATO and ATS functionality
