As the name suggests, pre-flight checks are done prior to takeoff. We are determining whether the aircraft is ready for a safe flight. A written check list is used to make sure that all important tasks are done; items on the list include checking for properly-working systems, fuel, oil, etcetera.
This is just a casual video walking through and breaking down the preflight checklist for a Cessna 152. This video is tailored to student pilots training with CFI David of the Flying Twenty Flight Club at RHV but will be made public in case others may find it useful. Also, note that we are going a little slow in this video; an experienced, focused pilot who is familiar with the aircraft could easily perform a thorough preflight in less time. If we find that we are missing anything or corrections need to be made, we'll include those updates in this description. You can also leave a comment below and let us know.
Edit: while you are checking this area of the aircraft (around 20:49 in the video), you should also ensure that the nose gear strut is showing 2-3 inches of chrome.
