In the previous video, resource rents were discussed; I pointed out that collection of resource rents would not distort the production or output decisions of private firms. In this video, we examine ways in which governments could collect resource rents using timber production from public lands as an example. It turns out that governments are unlikely capable of collecting all of the resource rents because informational requirements are simply too onerous and some methods of collecting rents could lead to high grading.
