Hey everyone! This video is a little different from my usual content. Instead of diving straight into digital sculpting tools and brushes, I wanted to share something that I think is really important for anyone learning 3D character work and toy design: how to break down 2D designs so you can actually sculpt them digitally. This is a sneak peek from my upcoming digital sculpting course, but I realized this topic deserved its own video because so many of you have asked about it. When I first started character sculpting, I'd look at amazing character art and feel completely overwhelmed - where do you even begin turning this into a 3D model or collectible figure? The trick is learning to see the basic shapes first. Once you can break any character down into simple forms like spheres, cylinders, and cubes, suddenly digital sculpting becomes much more manageable. This shape analysis technique is essential whether you're creating action figures, collectibles, or any 3D character art. This approach works for any style too - whether you're digitally sculpting organic creatures, robots, stylized characters, or designing toy prototypes. It's a fundamental skill that bridges concept art and 3D production. I hope this helps some of you who've been struggling with that jump from 2D concept art to 3D sculpting. It's one of those foundational skills that just makes everything else easier once you get it - especially if you're interested in toy design or character modeling. Big shoutout to the artists who created these amazing character designs. I've had the pleasure of digitally sculpting some of their work, and there's one artist here whose style I absolutely love.
