To fire roll with charcoal dust, place a small amount (1/4tsp) of finely crushed charcoal or mixed wood ash/dust inside a cotton ball or fabric. Roll it extremely tightly, then use a flat board to roll it rapidly back-and-forth under pressure to create an ember, typically 10–30 strokes, until smoke appears.
