Isaiah 53 with intro from 52 Prologue — Isaiah 52:13–15 [intro] Behold My servant — He shall deal wisely, Exalted, lifted, very high. Yet many were astonished at His visage — His form more marred than sons of men. So shall He sprinkle many nations; Kings will shut their mouths at Him — For what was never told, they now shall see, And what they never heard, they now shall know. Isaiah 52:13–15; Philippians 2:9–11; Romans 15:21 Verse 1 — Isaiah 53:1–3 [verse] Who has believed our report? To whom is the arm of the LORD revealed? He grew up before Him as a tender plant — a root out of dry ground. No form, no comeliness. No beauty that we should desire Him. Despised and rejected of men — a man of sorrows, acquainted with grief. We hid our faces from Him. He was despised — and we esteemed Him not. Isaiah 53:1–3; John 1:11; John 12:38; Romans 10:16 Verse 2 — Isaiah 53:4–6 [verse] Surely He bore our griefs — carried our sorrows — yet we esteemed Him stricken, smitten of God, afflicted. But He was wounded for our pesha — bruised for our iniquities. The chastisement of our peace was upon Him — and by His stripes we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray — each one turned to his own way — and the LORD has laid on Him the iniquity of us all. Isaiah 53:4–6; 1 Peter 2:24–25; Matthew 8:17; Romans 4:25 Verse 3 — Isaiah 53:7–9 [verse] He was oppressed and afflicted — yet He opened not His mouth. Brought as a lamb to the slaughter — as a sheep before her shearers, dumb — He opened not His mouth. Taken from prison and from judgment — and who shall declare His generation? He was cut off from the land of the living — for the pesha of my people He was stricken. He made His grave with the wicked and with the rich in His death — because He had done no violence, neither was deceit in His mouth. Isaiah 53:7–9; Acts 8:32–35; 1 Peter 2:22; Matthew 27:57–60 The Hinge — Isaiah 53:10–11 [bridge] Yet it was the chafetz of the LORD to crush Him — He put Him to grief. His soul made an offering for sin — He shall see His seed, He shall prolong His days, and the chafetz of the LORD shall prosper in His hand. He shall see the travail of His soul — and be satisfied. By His knowledge My righteous servant shall justify many — for He shall bear their iniquities. Isaiah 53:10–11; Romans 5:18–19; Hebrews 9:26–28; John 10:17–18; Revelation 5:9–10 Closing — Isaiah 53:12 [outro] Therefore I will divide Him a portion with the great — He shall divide the spoil with the strong — because He poured out His soul unto death, and was numbered with the transgressors. He bore the sin of many — and made intercession for the posh’im. Isaiah 53:12; Luke 22:37; Hebrews 7:25; Romans 8:34; Luke 23:34
