In a previous video we created some agents in the Unity game engine with the ability to query ChatGPT and set them to have a little dialogue. In this video, we'll just observe a bit of such dialogue on a philosophical topic. The initial prompt used is: "Ask a key philosophical question in the tradition of German Idealism? For example about being, freedom, ground, autonomy." Whatever one agent says is then passed on to the other with the following prefix to the prompts: "You are an expert in German Idealist philosophy. Formulate a philosophical response to the following text in under 100 words, relevant to the tradition of German Idealism. Don't mention German Idealism explicitly. Begin you response with a pondering interjection. Finish your response with a novel question. Keep it varied. Never use the triad 'Thesis, Antithesis, Synthesis'. The text you should respond to is: " Delightfully, they never do use the triad T-A-S. Hegel has especial notoriety in supposedly having followed such a formula, but that is utterly untrue and not to be found in his writings. ---- The context window of current large language models is somewhat limited at the moment. However, it looks likely that the amount of context that can be passed into conversation such as this may be increased by several orders of magnitude. This will enable things such as loading a whole classic text into fresh memory for a LLM to have at the ready when being queried, or even a set of key texts. It therefore seems likely that language models can become very helpful tools in developing philosophical inquiry in some way or another.
