Well, my electric kiln needs a new set of heating elements. I have run a little more than 130 kiln firings on this original set, and they can no longer reach temperature.
Three of the six elements were broken. One per zone. Meaning that the remaining three have been getting an extra hard workout for some time.
I show how I check for broken elements and then test the resistance of those not yet broken to determine how worn out they are. Anything over 10% worn out merits considering replacement.
If you were curious, a replacement set of heating elements costs about $500 for this kiln. If $500 elements gets me 130 firings, I need to budget about $4 per firing towards replacements in the future.
Once I get the new elements installed, I have several fun projects to show you. Be sure to subscribe.
