Today was our first experience of chemo from a patient’s perspective and also wearing the cold cap in an attempt to preserve a part of myself. Cold cap- ok- nowhere near as bad as I feared. Headache yes but manageable. Paclitaxel was not pleasant but the whole experience was made immensely challenging by the lack of empathy I encountered and the obstacles put in my way about having my husband present for future sessions. This is not a government policy and is not the same across all hospitals. I believe something needs to change. The patient’s needs should be put first and not the needs of the staff.
