The Slav Defense is one of the primary defenses against the Queen's Gambit and starts out with 1. d4 d5 2. c4 c6. Then after 3. Nf3 Nf6 4. Nc3 black can respond with 4...a6, the Chebanenko variation. This a great option for black and one that white many times won't be prepared for.
