I 70 W exit Evergreen Parkway, make right turn on CO 66 Mt Evans scenic byway and continue on CO 103, just you pass echo mountain sign trail head is on the left side of the road ( easy to miss: mile marker 18). Google map: Chief Mountain Trail Head.
2.9 miles out and back, elevation gain 971’, dog friendly, chief mountain summit a small but easy scramble, winter time use spikes and poles. I did this trail 2 times snow free and 3rd time on May 10, 2026 still snow and slippery with no spikes but downhill pole helped me. So better to use spikes and poles in winter. 360 view of Mt Evans and other mountains as well front range.
