www.ourworshipsound.com This tutorial and lesson shows how to use piano chord inversions to play progressions that sound smooth, have a good melody to the movement, and stay in a good range. This is good for beginners and intermediate keyboard players. My script notes are below and may help you follow along. Basic chords - for any major key, number the scale steps and build a chord on each one 4 most important chords in pop music Showed you...jumping around a lot Simple concept, but it's a major step in learning to play chords on piano. Show root, 1st inversion, 2nd inversion college level music theory, believe it or not (walk through the thought processes) 3 things you need to consider: 1. smoothness of getting from one chord to another 2. melody you create with the chords (the top note is most easily recognized by our ears) 3. Range - too low and it will sound muddy When you're starting to play by chords, you may have to spend lots of time teaching your fingers how to get from one chord to the next, taking these three points into consideration. But as you improve, you'll start to do it automatically according to what your ear wants to hear. That's the most important thing - decide what sounds good - it's not about following the rules, but knowing how to bend the rules to get to the sound you want. "Draw Me In" is a solo worship album from Peter Thompson. Peter is a worship artist, songwriter, music educator, and producer. He is passionate about releasing an original sound of worship in the Church and in followers of Jesus Christ. Peter has a varied history as a musician and worshiper. After taking up piano at age 9, he continued his music training through college and earned a music education degree from Iowa State University. After marrying in 2001, he and his wife Holly spent ten months in Sydney, Australia, studying at Hillsong International Leadership College. At Hillsong, Peter played trumpet with Darlene Zschech and recorded a solo on the Hillsong's 2003 studio release, Faithful. Since 2004, he has served as Minister of Music at Body of Christ Church, and he currently oversees church leadership teams there. As a songwriter, Peter has penned many songs for corporate worship used in his congregation and beyond. However, his 2011 solo album Draw Me In takes his songwriting in a new direction. He stated, "I needed an avenue for songs that were more individual and devotional -- songs that would stretch beyond corporate singing. These are songs that all started in moments of personal worship." The album is available at www.ourworshipsound.com, a website dedicated to inspiring authentic and original worship expression. Other items of note, Peter is into piano, songwriting, guitar, recording, Logic Pro, Ableton Live, the Apogee Duet, digital media, music marketing, Facebook, Twitter, Wordpress, Rhodes keyboards, the Cyclones, and lots of other stuff that people might want to search on youtube! Peter and Holly reside in Ames, Iowa
