Cinematic Title Intro in After Effects Using 3D Camera Tracker
The title in your video might already be great, but when you add your creativity and give it a cinematic touch—such as a 3D cinematic title—it can significantly boost viewer engagement, whether it's a travel video or any other type of content. In this tutorial, I’ll show you how I created a stunning title intro using the 3D Camera Tracker in Adobe After Effects. To create a 3D cinematic title intro in After Effects, we’ll follow a few simple steps. The first step is 3D camera tracking. To start, go to the Effects & Presets tab and search for 3D Camera Tracker. Once you find it, drag it onto the video clip you want to track. After the analysis is complete, choose a target point and then create a Solid and Camera. Now it's time to adjust the X, Y, and Z rotations in 3D space, as the solid might not be perfectly aligned. If you're unsure about the rotation axes, here's a quick breakdown: X Rotation (Red Circle): Rotates the layer around the horizontal axis (tilts the object up or down). Y Rotation (Green Circle): Rotates it around the vertical axis (pans left or right). Z Rotation (Blue Circle): Rotates the layer clockwise or counterclockwise. Once your rotation is properly set, move on to the next step. Pre-compose the solid layer, and make sure to check "Leave all attributes in Main Comp". This keeps all animations, effects, and keyframes on the original layer within the main composition. Also, check "Open New Composition", then click OK. Now we’ve entered the new text composition. Here, add your text—something like "Tourist", then "Destinations in" just below it, followed by "Spain", assuming the video is based in Spain. Customize your titles by adjusting the font, style, scale, position, and color to give them a polished, cinematic look. Once you’re happy with the design, return to the Main Composition. Use the Timeline Indicator to scrub through and preview how the titles follow the motion of the video. If you need to resize the title, simply adjust the Scale value of the Text Pre-comp layer. To reposition it, hover your mouse over the title area until the X, Y, and Z axes appear, then drag it to your desired position. Now, preview the animation to see your 3D title in action. To add more cinematic flair, let’s apply a Parallax or Dolly Zoom effect. First, select all the layers, right-click on any selected one, and choose Pre-compose. Make sure "Move all attributes into the new composition" is selected, and uncheck "Open New Composition", then click OK. You’ll now see a new pre-comp layer in the timeline—similar to a nested sequence in Premiere Pro. Select this new layer and press S to bring up the Scale property, then hold Shift and press P to add Position. Set keyframes at the beginning, middle, and end of the timeline. Select the middle keyframes and increase the Scale to around 150%. For Position, increase the X value slightly to move the video to the right (X controls horizontal movement). The key here is to modify only the middle keyframes while keeping the beginning and end keyframes at their default values. And that’s it! You’ve now created a smooth, cinematic parallax-style effect on your 3D title in Adobe After Effects using the 3D Camera Tracker.
