Classification Does Not Explain the Individual Psyche ⬇️ This video closes the On Volume 6 bridge between Carl Jung’s psychological types and the Objective Personality System. The question at the center of this video is simple: Can typology classify the structure of the psyche without pretending to explain the whole person? Jung gives us two warnings about classification. The first warning is methodological. In the Argentine Foreword to Psychological Types, Jung criticizes the use of typology as a labeling game: sticking types onto people from a distance, treating categories as social shorthand, and cutting the type descriptions loose from careful observation. OPS has an answer to that warning. Its answer is coin-typing: bottom-up observation, repeated binary determinations, and a typing procedure where the final type emerges from evidence rather than being imposed at the start. But Jung’s second warning is deeper. In paragraph 895, Jung writes that classification does not explain the individual psyche. That warning cannot be answered by better methodology alone. It has to be answered by restraint. OPS can specify structure: functions, modality, animal stack, savior/daemon polarity, ordonnance, developmental work, and characteristic failure modes. But it cannot specify the symbolic content of an individual life. It cannot tell you what dreams will appear, what images will carry the unconscious, what relationships will trigger the daemon, what vocation will call the person, what griefs will shape them, or what their individuation process will actually look like from the inside. That is the structure/content firewall. OPS can classify the form of the work. It cannot replace the individual who has to live it. The argument of this video is that OPS honors Jung only if it knows what classification cannot do.
