Clawhammer Banjo Tutorial – Leland’s Waltz

Here is a multi-faceted tutorial about how I approach Leland’s Waltz. A beautiful and fun tune written by Tim Foss and performed by Foghorn Stringband. But the fingering is the same as I demonstrate here. Originally in A as a cross fiddle tune… G shapes on the banjo made sense to me. I’lI do my best to speak to all clawhammerers here.. beginners and advanced players alike. It's a simple song, but has a lot to offer in one quick lesson. A good chance to learn or brush up on playing in waltz time, the chord progression, thumb-led syncopation, and coaxing melodies out of the clawhammer stroke.
