Bangladesh’s coastal region especially Morrelganj faces acute safe‑water scarcity due to high groundwater salinity, forcing families to rely on unsafe pond water. To address this, Helvetas Bangladesh and DORP, with support from charity: water, are implementing the “Increasing Access to Improved WASH Services” project across 15 unions in Bagerhat and Khulna district (6 in Morrelganj, 4 in Paikgacha, 5 in Koyra). A solar‑powered piped water system using surface‑water treatment, a protected pond, slow‑sand filtration unit and 16 tap stands now delivers safe drinking water to 341 households in Jiudhara Union. A trained Water Management Committee, caretakers, and WASH mechanics ensure long‑term operation, maintenance, and water‑quality monitoring.
