Here is one way to clean a sharpening stone that worked great for me. I've had this tri-stone since before I could drive and have caked on the honing oil over the years. I found WD-40 and Isopropyl Alcohol, along with steel wool, were the 2 most popular things used to remove the oil so I tried one.
