In this mindfulness exercise, you will practice both becoming aware of your thoughts, feelings, and bodily sensations in the present moment, and with the skill of stepping away from those experiences. Creating this distance is a necessary step with defusing from the intensity of experiences in order to help us to develop greater control over our actions.
I hope that you find this exercise useful, but if it feels challenging or doesn't quite 'stick' the first time, please do try again. Mindfulness is a skill just like any other--it requires practice and a willingness to try again.
