This demo conducted in a science lab shows a few things: the reaction of an acid (vinegar) and a base (baking soda), the result (CO2 gas) the fact that CO2 is heavier than air and the fact that CO2 gas is an Asyphyxiant (displaces the air) and thus extinguishes the flames.
